Mojuba Wedding – love, life, and the unexpected.

The usher’s role in a wedding must never be underestimated. The usher is responsible for making every guest feel welcome. He should be charming and captivating as he escorts guests to their seat. The number of ushers at a wedding ceremony depends on the number of expected guests; two ushers per fifty guests is a good rule of thumb.

Here are some of the usher’s duties:

• Getting measured and fitted for his tuxedo (and generally paying for it too).
• Assisting the best man with the bachelor party if asked.
• Helping the groom with last minute wedding details.
• Attending all pre-wedding parties. Cheers!
  
• Arriving early to the ceremony. Plan to get there about an hour in advance, but if you’re in pre-ceremony pictures the couple may give you an earlier time to arrive.
• Handing out programs (if there are any).
• Telling guests where the restrooms are located, and becoming familiar with the layout of the site so you are able to field any questions that guests may have.
• politely remind guests to turn off their cell phones.
• Seating the guests. Do this by offering your right arm to female guests as they arrive (chivalry is still alive and well in the world of weddings!). If it is a couple, the male guest will walk a few paces behind the two of you. If several guests arrive together, escort eldest guests first.
• Familiarize yourself with seating guidelines. The way guests are seated generally varies depending on the type of wedding. For example, in Christian ceremonies the bride’s guests are seated on the left side of the aisle and the groom’s guests on the right. Many times people request aisle seats to get a good look at the blushing bride. In order to ensure family (and sometimes close friends) are seated in a way that provides the best view, some couples may give pew cards to hand to an usher in order to ensure preferential seating for certain guests. We here at Mojuba love the use of pew cards because it ensures that your favorite, but chronically late, Aunt Betty still gets her front row seat at the wedding.
• Unrolling the aisle runner.
• In the event of rain, escort guests to their cars with an umbrella.
• Checking that the site is cleared of all guests’ and wedding party’s belongings after the ceremony.

Here are some of the modern day duties a Maid Of Honor is expected to perform:

*Help the bride choose her dress
*Help choose flattering dresses for the bridesmaids
*Assist with wedding plans like choosing the venue and planning the seating
*Organizing the bachelorette party,  and initiating introductions and playing host
*Let guests know where the couple is registered
*Help the bride get ready on the big day
*Look after the bouquet during the ceremony
*Arrang the brides dress, train, veil, even during the ceremony, if necessary (be careful not to go overboard and be  distracting)

If asked, helping choose the wedding attire.

Here  are some of the modern day jobs for the Best Man:

• Looking after any gifts or cards.
• Returning any rented formalwear after the wedding.

Most importantly, the Best Man should be there for his buddy in anyway possible throughout the exhausting, but wonderful, process of getting married!

Clearly our goal here is to fight tired and puffy eyes, which is an unfortunate side effect of late night stressing over wedding details!  Planning a wedding and looking beautiful both take a lot of time and energy, but with the right eye remedy you’ll be able to pull all-nighters and still look refreshed in the morning.  You glow, girl!
