Jackie’s Top Tips: Be UnConventional

March 11, 2010

Literally.

When choosing a date, the first thing you should do is visit your city’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau website, to make sure there are no conferences, cheerleading competitions, or chocolate-connoisseur conventions of any kind going on the weekend of your wedding.  Not only will all the good hotel rooms be sold out during these events, but the prices of any left-over rooms will skyrocket.  And trust us, no matter how much they love you, your guests won’t be happy paying $300/night for a stay at the local Super 8.   Plus, big events draw big crowds-and museums, restaurants, and roadways will all be traffic-heavy.

Be extra wary of these convention-happy cities:  Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington D.C., Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, and Nashville.
