Jackie’s Top Tips: No B-Lists

March 22, 2010

Your final guest list should be just that–final.   Although it may be tempting to create a “B-list” -or a list of secondary guests to invite in case some initial invitees can’t make it – you really should decide as a couple from the beginning if third cousins once removed are in or out, and stand firm in your decision.  People will generally know something is up if they get an invite four weeks before a wedding.  B-listed guests also may bring up the oddity of the last-minute invite to other guests at the wedding-which is a recipe for disaster since the majority of guests at the ceremony will have received save-the-dates and invitations months in advance.

However, it’s true that life changes, and you may find yourself with an awesome new co-worker or yoga pal you met while getting in shape for your wedding. If that is the case, be honest with your added guest. Tell them you know it is last minute, but you would be honored to have them at your wedding.
