Bow Ties For Your Beau

August 30, 2010

Ok, so we know that not every guy can pull off a bow tie – it takes that certain je ne sais quoi which can best be described as a combination of preppiness, geek chic, and confidence.  Nonetheless, we say if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

Bow ties are back in a big way: celebrities ranging from Ed Westwick to Kanye West have been commonly spotted wearing them around town.  We also can’t get enough of Rachel Zoe’s lovable assistant Brad Goreski, who is seldom seen without his signature preppy neck-wear and recently admitted in an interview that he owns somewhere between 100 and 150 bow ties.

If it’s your guy’s style, we think bow ties are a darling gift for his birthday, your anniversary, or just because.  Much like pocket squares, they are a great way for guys to accessorize an outfit, leaving your dude looking dapper and sophisticated.  For a super preppy look, we love the sailboat or signature whale designs from Vineyard Vines.  Looking for something a little more classic and traditional?  Try J. Press: this navy and pink striped bow tie would look fantastic with a crisp white shirt and navy blazer.  Paul Stuart bow ties were the most highly recommended by our male readers, and we love the variety of colors available for this classic solid bow tie.  And in case you’re looking for something that will really grab attention, K. Cooper Ray of has recently teamed up with Brooks Brothers to produce this fabulous and fun line of bow ties.

So, ladies, the next time you’re looking for a preppy and fun gift for your beau, we say – tie one on!
